Tax Map Department

The Tax Map Department reviews legal descriptions and surveys prepared for the purpose of transferring property within the county to make sure they meet state minimum standards and Wyandot County's standards for conveyance (PDF). The Tax Map Department then updates appropriate tax maps for each property transfer. The Tax Map Department also assists the public with locating property, verifying ownership, and assigns all new addresses in unincorporated areas of the county.

The Tax Map Department is responsible for providing a set of current maps to assist the County Auditor in preparing taxes. Ohio law mandates that the County Engineer create and organize the tax maps of his/her community. These tax maps must be continually updated to reflect changes in property ownership. This responsibility entails creating and maintaining a detailed inventory of every parcel of land in the county. A scale map must be drawn for every parcel of property in the county. The scale required by law is at least one inch for every quarter mile, but heavily populated areas require a greater definition in the drawings. The County Engineer must ensure the accuracy of the property surveys as the County Auditor's office uses these detailed tax maps as its official record for property tax purposes.

Please note: This is a tax map system and is not a full Geographic Information System (GIS) and is not intended to be a full GIS. Wyandot County currently does not have a GIS department to handle advanced information requests.
